Linocut Print - CURLEW SANDPIPER

$45.00

This is an original hand carved and hand printed linocut print. It is an open edition (O/E) print i.e. this is not a numbered limited edition.
(UPDATE: Although this is an open edition print, I have now retired this print - what the stock level indicates is what is left, I will not be renewing this listing after stock is depleted.)

My print portrays the critically endangered Curlew Sandpiper in flight, against a backdrop of clouds. Although not tangible, the sky; the very air they breath and fly through is being polluted on a daily basis. Inhalation exposure to pollutants such as urban and industrial emissions can cause a number of adverse effects to these vulnerable birds. Human disturbance, such as heavy recreational use of beaches, is also another significant threat in some parts of NSW.

For this print, I used relief printing techniques; the sandpiper is a linocut, and the clouds are hand carved stamps.

The lino plate and stamps used for this print were originally used for a work submitted to the Overwintering Project which invites artists from Australia and New Zealand to respond to the unique nature of their local migratory shorebird habitat.

Linocut printing is a form of printmaking referred to as relief printing.
My process in creating a print starts with an illustration. I then transfer the illustration to the lino block.
The image is carved into the block using specialty carving tools.
The carving process is a detailed and time consuming process, and requires a high level of attention and patience.
The blocks are then inked with archival quality ink and printed on acid free archival quality printmaking paper.

Your print will have four machine cut edges.

Due to the nature of the handmade process, each print is unique and will have variations.
