Etching - ESCAPE FROM WITHIN
Etching - ESCAPE FROM WITHIN
This is an original hand-pulled drypoint etching using a printing press. Limited edition of 10 prints.
This etching was created in response to the theme "Interior" for an exhibition with the Warringah Printmakers Studio as part of the 2022 Creative Open. This etching, when scanned by a smartphone device, leads to an animation on my YouTube channel (see product video). It is an animation of a linocut print of mine titled "The Bird Within". In the animation, the bell jar lid is removed and the bird flies away to freedom. (You can test it by opening the camera app on your phone, pointing it at the QR code on the screen, and tapping the link).
Interactive art is fun, framed and hanging on a wall, the mystery of where the QR code may lead will be sure to catch the attention of "techy" guests.
Drypoint etching is an intaglio printmaking technique where a scribe is used to create incisions onto a plate such as metal, cardboard or perspex (plastic). Ink is applied to the plate and wipe off the surface, leaving ink in the incisions. The ink in the incisions is transfered to paper via high pressure using a printing press.
Due to the nature of the handmade process, each print will have slight variations.
Your print will have three deckled edges and one hand torn edge.

Behind the Price Tag: Each of my hand-pulled prints is an original artwork - etched, carved, and printed by hand using traditional printmaking methods. There’s no digital reproduction here, just time, skill, and many quiet hours in the studio. These works are printed in small editions, signed, and made to last. My pricing reflects the labour, materials, and care involved - as well as my goal to make a sustainable living from my creative work. It’s easy to spend without hesitation on mass-produced items. This is something different: slow, personal, and created with intention.
Note: Images shown in frames are mock-ups only and are not an indication of scale and size. Please refer to the measurements given above for correct indication of size. Colours will vary in real life compared to what you see on your screen.
