This is an original hand-pulled collagraph print, printed by hand using traditional intaglio techniques. Open edition. Currently, only two prints are available; additional prints may be made in the future, though timing is uncertain. This listing is for an unframed print.
Shared Horizons depicts two Australian magpies in flight, moving together across an open sky, a quiet moment of connection and movement into the distance.
Printed using an à la poupée technique, where multiple ink colours are carefully applied to a single plate and printed in one pass, allowing for subtle shifts and variation within each impression.
Collagraph is a versatile printmaking technique where textures are built up on a plate, creating beautiful depth. This type of collagraph is made using the inside of recycled TetraPaks (e.g. long life milk cartons). The surface of the tetrapak is manipulated by means of tearing, sanding, drypoint and other processes to create the desired texture. Ink is applied to the surface, and the image is pressed onto paper using a printing press. The mark making process is a detailed and time consuming process, and requires a high level of attention and patience.
Each sheet of paper is hand torn to the required size.
No two magpies are the same - each print has its own variation, with its own little mood.
Paper Size: 15cm (W) x 15.5cm (H)
Ink: Sakura Printmaking Ink
Paper: Hahnemuhle 230gsm
Each print is signed, and numbered in pencil on the back.
All prints are unframed. Your print will be packaged within a plastic sleeve with backing board. The print will be shipped in a rigid mailer.
Behind the Price Tag: Each of my hand-pulled prints is an original artwork - etched, carved, and printed by hand using traditional printmaking methods. There’s no digital reproduction here, just time, skill, and many quiet hours in the studio. These works are printed in small editions, signed, and made to last. My pricing reflects the labour, materials, and care involved - as well as my goal to make a sustainable living from my creative work. It’s easy to spend without hesitation on mass-produced items. This is something different: slow, personal, and created with intention.
